Monday, 3/9/20  We are now studying aquatic biomes. We will have an unit test next Tuesday the 17th.

Monday, 3/2/20  We are continuing on our Biomes unit. We will be having a vocabulary quiz covering terrestrial biomes this week.

Monday, 2/24/20  Today we start biomes which are the large naturally occurring communities of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g. forest or tundra. This unit will last about three weeks.

Monday, 2/10/20  We are still on unit 3 which covers Ecology. Expect our unit test to be this Friday the 14th, our last day before the February break. We will then start on unit 4 which covers Biomes.

Monday, 2/3/20  We are on unit 3 covering Ecology. We will have a Food Web quiz this Thursday. We will have our unit test next week on Wednesday.

Monday, 1/27/20  We are now on unit 2 which covers Ecology. Please work on your vocabulary daily for this unit, it makes a big difference.

Tuesday, 1/21/20  I hope that you had a great three day weekend. We are closing in on the end of Unit 1 which covered our introductory material. The unit test will be this Thursday the 23rd.

Monday, 1/13/20  We are still on our first unit which covers Introduction to Environmental Science. We will have a test at the end of this week covering this material.

Monday, 1/6/2020  Welcome back to another great semester at Wheeler High School! We will get started right away in learning about our environment that is all around us. Monday, 3/9/20  We started a bit of the second half of this unit last Friday after our Porifera test. We are now studying Cnadarians and our test covering this material will be this Friday the 13th.

Monday, 3/2/20  We started our unit on Porifera (sponges) and Cnardaria (jellyfish) last Thursday. We will concentrate on sponges this week and jellyfish next week.

Monday, 2/24/20  We are starting a mini unit covering terms and concepts you will need to know for the rest of the class. There will only be a quiz covering this new material. This quiz will be on Thursday. We will then move on to unit 4 which covers porifera (sponges) and cnardarians (jellyfish and corals).

Monday, 2/10/20  We are still on unit 3, classification this week. We will have our unit 3 test this Thursday the 13th. It will cover classification and organization. Grade recovery will be on Friday.

Monday, 2/3/20  We start unit 3 today. We will learn all about how organisms and animals are classified. We will have a quiz this Friday the 7th over this new material.

Monday, 1/27/20  We are still on our unit 2 covering Evolution. we will have a quiz tomorrow covering this part of the Evolution unit.

Monday, 1/13/20  We are still on Unit 1 covering Ecology. We will have a test for this unit this Friday the 17th.

Monday, 1/6/2020  Welcome back to another great semester at Wheeler High School! We will start right away in learning about animals. Out first unit is on Ecology. Expect a short quiz at the end of this week covering terms and definitions we will learn this week. We will have a unit test at the end of next week. We will then start on Unit 2 which will cover Evolution.

Zoology, 3rd block, Spring ’19

5/13/19  Today we will finish reviewing for our Student Growth Measure test, also known as the final. The final will take place tomorrow, Tuesday. Wednesday will be a catch up day for any missing work. Wednesday will be our last day for class!

5/6/19  Today we have our quiz covering fish and amphibians. Wednesday the 8th we will have a quiz covering reptiles and birds. Friday the 10th we will have out mammals quiz. On Tuesday the 14th, we will have out final exam. Wednesday the 22nd is Commencement!

4/29/19  We will be starting our Fish and Amphibian unit this week. We will have a quiz covering fish next Monday, 5/6. I will be out of the classroom Monday through Wednesday due to End of Course testing. I could possibly be out of the classroom Thursday and Friday as well.

4/22/19  We continue in our unit on Mollusks and Echinoderms. Be prepared for a quiz early next week.

4/15/19  We continue on our unit on Mollusks and Echinoderms. We have a unit test this Tuesday the 16th. We will be working on a study guide in class in order to prepare. We’re nearing the finish line line, so don’t give up, push harder, and keep on!

4/8/19  We are finished with worms! and will start on unit 5 which covers Mollusks and Echinoderms. We will have our unit test on Tuesday the 16th. The coloring packet is due that day as well. Please get your make up work in asap as grades go in this week.

3/25/19  We continue on our unit 4 on Worms! We have already covered flatworms and roundworms and quizzed over them. We will continue with our segmented worm section. We will have our unit test covering worms on Thursday the 28th.

3/18/19  We will have a quiz today on flatworms. It will cover identifying parts in a Planaria picture, the life style of blood and liver flukes, the tapeworm anatomy, and general facts of flatworms. Know that Nematoda are flukes, Cestoda are tapeworms, and Turbellaria are Planaria and Bipalium. We will continue with our Worms! unit after that. We will have our roundworms quiz this Thursday the 21st. Friday we will start on the segmented worm section.

3/11/19  We start on our Worms! unit 4 today. I hope you all have submitted your Porifera and Cnidaria projects already.

3/4/19  Today we will finish our Cnidaria notes and tomorrow we will fill out our study guide and write our “cheat sheets.” We will take our test covering unit 3, Porifera and Cnidarians on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we will do a summative project for the unit. We will then start on unit 4, Worms.

2/25/19  “The Cask of Amontillado” Welcome back! I hope you had a great break. We just started our Unit 3 on Porifera, which is also know as sponges.

2/11/19  We are still continuing with Unit 2 covering animal characteristics and organization. Out unit test will be this Tuesday, then we will stat unit 3.

2/4/19  We are continuing with Unit 2 covering animal characteristics and organization. We will start cladograms on Wednesday and we will work on a cladogram project Thursday and some of Friday. We will be in the media center in Thursday.

1/28/19  We will have a snow day tomorrow. On Wednesday, we will have out Unit 2 quiz. Please study!

1/22/19  We are starting our second unit. We will have a unit test next week.

1/14/19  We are on the Ecology unit which covers ecosystems, niches, environmental factors, and biomass. We will be having a quiz this coming Thursday.

9th Literature and Composition, 2nd block, Spring ’19

5/20/19  Our last week of school and Wednesday is our last day of classes. Out final will be Tuesday the 21st. Have a great summer off!

5/13/19  We are now done with the reading of Romeo and Juliet, although we are not done with the flip book questions and activities for this play. We are in our second to the last week of school. Summer vacation is coming,

5/6/19  We are now done with out 9th Grade Composition and Literature End of Course test. We will continue with the reading of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

4/29/19  We are doing our 9th Literature and Composition End of Course testing (EOC) this week Monday through Wednesday. Things should be getting back to normal on Thursday, unless you are taking another EOC. I will be out all week testing,so I will see you next Monday, 5/6.

4/22/19  We continue on our poetry unit. We also are continuing with our unit 9 in vocabulary. The End of Course test is Monday the 29th, Tuesday the 30th of April, and Wednesday the 1st of May. Please pay attention to all the things we are learning and reviewing in class, so you can get the best EOC grade possible.

4/15/19  We continue on our poetry unit and continue with unit 8 for our vocabulary. We’re nearing the finish line line, so don’t give up, push harder, and keep on!

4/8/19  We are finishing up  on our unit which covers To Kill a Mockingbird. The test for this will be Wednesday the 10th. We will then start on our poetry unit. Please get your make up work in asap as grades go in this week.

3/25/19  We continue in our reading of To Kill a Mockingbird. We will introduce our unit 7 vocabulary words today.

3/18/19  We will do our presentations for our basic human rights today and tomorrow we will start on To Kill a Mockingbird. We will test this week on Thursday over our unit 6 vocabulary words.

3/11/19  We will test on Tuesday over our unit 5 vocabulary words, and Wednesday we will receive our unit 6 words. We will have a three day project this week covering basic human rights. This will be Thursday, Friday and next Monday the 18th. This is the start of our introduction to To Kill a Mockingbird.

3/4/19  We will continue writing our new ending to the “The Cask of Amontillado” today and tomorrow. We received our unit 5 vocabulary words last Friday the 1st. Next Monday the 11th, we will quiz over them. Wednesday the 6th, we will have a Unit 2 summative test. We will then start on Unit 3 and we will read “To Kill A Mockingbird”. The introduction to this book will be on Friday the 8th.

2/25/19  Welcome back! I hope you had a great break. We will be reading the short story, “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe this week. At the end of the week we will write our own new ending. We have just started our unit 4 vocabulary words. We will have out test on Thursday (as always). If you aren’t doing so well on the vocabulary quizzes, please consider using Quizlet to make flashcards. The key to vocabulary mastery is many small repeated exposures, not one big one.

2/11/19  We will be finishing up out persuasive essays today. We will have our unit 3 vocabulary test this week and start unit 4 in vocabulary. We will also be working on our literary terms as well.

2/4/19  We have started the writing process for our persuasive paper. We will take this step by tiny step in order to teach and support you.

1/28/19  We will have a snow day tomorrow. On Wednesday, we will have our Unit 2 vocabulary quiz. Please study!

1/22/19  We will continue on our unit Coming of Age. We will receive out new vocabulary words today and read a short story called, “Marigolds”.

1/14/19  We are working on grammar, writing, and independent reading this week. We will  start the short story called Speak as well.

Environmental Science, 1st block, Spring ’19

5/20/19  This is our last week of school and Wednesday is our last day of class as well as our last day of finals. Our final will be tomorrow, Tuesday the 21st. Have a great summer off!

5/13/19  We will start our review for out final today. We still have unit 6 to go still though.

5/6/19  Our Upcycling Project is due today. We will have out unit 5 test this Wednesday the 8th. We will then start our last unit called Energy Resources.

4/29/19  We continue on our Earth and Pollution unit. I will be out of the classroom all week due to End of Course testing.

4/22/19  We are now on our second to the last unit. This unit is called Earth and Pollution.

4/15/19  We have a quiz today cover human populations and our unit test will be this Wednesday the 17th. We will be working on a study guide in class in order to prepare. We’re nearing the finish line line, so don’t give up, push harder, and keep on!

3/11/19  This week we continue with our Ecology unit. We will have a quiz tomorrow, Tuesday, covering the aquatic vocabulary that we have been studying. Our unit 3 test will be this Friday the 15th. Also on that day our rough draft of our research paper will be due.

3/4/19  This week we continue with our unit in Ecology, in particular, Biomes. We have a Biomes quiz tomorrow (Tuesday).

2/25/19  Welcome back! I hope you had a great break. We start our Unit 3 on Ecology with Aquatic Ecosystems.

2/11/19  We continue with our unit 2 on Ecology. We will have a quiz over Succession tomorrow and we will have our unit test this coming Friday.

2/4/19  We continue on our unit 2 on Ecology. On Wednesday the 6th, we will have a Food Web quiz and we will re-test the following day. On Tuesday the 12, we will have another quiz covering succession vocabulary and the food web. On Friday the 15th, we will have our Unit 2 test.

1/28/19  We will have a snow day tomorrow. Thursday will will be having a vocabulary test.

Zoology, 3rd and 4th blocks, Fall ’18

1/22/19

Monday, 12/17  We re almost there! This is our last week before our winter break and boy, do we all need it! We are reviewing for our final which will take place this Tuesday the 18th. We will have A lunch instead of D for tomorrow (Tuesday) only. We will close our Reptile/Bird online test this Friday the 21st at the end of school (11:59 am).

Monday, 12/10  We are whizzing through our last few units. Tonight the online frog dissection lab is due by 11:59 tonight. We are working on Unit 7, Fish and Amphibians, then Unit 8 on Reptiles and Lizards, and finally unit 9 on Mammals and other Chordates. Next week is our last week of the semester, so study hard and get that work done!

Monday, 12/3  Unit 5 summative online test on Mollusks and Echinoderms will close tonight at 11:59 pm. Unit 6 summative test on Arthropods is now open and will close this Thursday night at 11:59 pm. Unit 7 will cover Fish and Amphibians, then we have Unit 8 on Reptiles and Lizards, and finally unit 9 on Mammals and other Chordates. Hold on to your hats, we have 13 days left until finals.

Monday, 11/26  Welcome back from Thanksgiving break! I hope you had a great and relaxing time. We continue on our Unit 5 on Mollusks and Echinoderms. Towards the end of the week, thee will be a special extra credit opportunity that is online on Schoology. This grade will take the place of the lowest assignment grade that you have had this semester. It will be open from Thursday morning the 29th and will close at 11:59 Friday night the 30th. Also, our unit 5 summative test on Mollusks and Echinoderms is online on Schoology and will close next Monday the 3rd at 11:59 pm.

Monday, November 12  We are in Unit 4 covering Worms! Our final assessment is due today via Schoology. We will then start Unit 5 tomorrow. It will cover Mollusks and  Echinoderms. We are working on our notes packets from our textbook and we have our coloring packet due this Friday the 16th. At the end of this week, we have a whole week off! Happy Turkey Day to you all!

Monday, November 5  We will continue on our section of segmented worms in our unit 4 of worms. Expect a unit test later this week.

Monday, October 29  We are continuing our unit on Worms which include flatworms, roundworms, and segmented worms. We will have a vocabulary quiz over the flatworm vocabulary today and start on our roundworm section of the unit. Grades will be submitted this Wednesday the 31st, so if you have make up work and want it reflected on this progress report, please submit it asap. We will start our section of segmented worms in our unit 4 on worms.

Monday, October 15  We start our week with a quiz over Cnidarians today. Make sure to keep up with your journal entries daily as it’s an easy A if you do this simple task and this should be helping your grade. We will be doing a summative project instead of a test to end up our unit on Porifera and Cnidarians. We will have some time in class to work on this, but you will be expected to do some of the work out of class. All information is in our Schoology account under unit 3 summative assessment. We will next cover Worms in our next unit.

Monday, October 8  We start with another section of unit 3 which covers Cnidarians today which include jellys (used to be called jellyfish), sea anemones, and corals. Make sure to keep up with your notes as this is the main place we get our test and quiz questions from.

Monday, October 1  I hope you had a great week off! We will start unit 3 today which will cover mammals. We will have a quiz this Friday, October 5th which will cover sponges. Be sure to know all of its parts.

Monday, September 17  We will have a quiz tomorrow, Tuesday the 18th, cover part of our unit on Classification. We will have our unit test on this Friday the 21st.

Monday, September 10  We will retake the quiz on Evolution that we took last Thursday as the class, as a whole, did not do well. We will then continue with our Evolution unit. Grades go in on this Wednesday the 12th, so make sure that you get all of your work in before that.

Tuesday, September 4  We will do a geologic time period lab today and possibly tomorrow. Thursday we will have a quiz covering our evolution material that we have had so far in Unit 3.

Monday, 8/27/18  Today we start on our Classification and Organization unit. This is our third unit of our Zoology class. There are ten units total.

Monday, 8/20/18  We will continue with our unit on Ecology. Today we will learn about the words utilized in describing different areas of animal bodies. Tomorrow we will have a lab on this, and Wednesday we will have a quiz covering these new terms. Thursday we will review for Friday’s unit 1 test covering Evolution.

Monday, 8/13/18  We will test over the basics of Biology this Tuesday the 14th, then we will start on our first Zoology unit which will be on Ecology.

Monday, 8/6/18  We will start reviewing the basics of Biology this week. Expect an assessment next Tuesday the 14th.

Environmental Science, 1st block, Fall ’18

Monday, 12/17  We re almost there! This is our last week before our winter break and boy, do we all need it! We are reviewing for our final which will take place this Thursday the 20th. It will be our home stretch.

Monday, 12/10  Tomorrow we will have our quiz on our Energy unit and Friday will be our Unit test. Don’t forget, all of our make up work needs to be turned on by this Wednesday the 12th! Next week is our last week of the semester, so study hard and get that work done!

Monday, 12/3  We have a unit 5 Pollution test today. We will then start on our next unit which is unit 6 on Energy. This will be our last unit. We will quiz on it on Tuesday the 11th and the test will be on Friday the 14th. After that will be finals!

Monday, October 22  We are continuing unit 4 on Biodiversity and Populations. Our part two of the coral reef project, the modeling part, is due this Thursday the 25th.

Monday, October 15  We are now onto our next unit 4 on Biodiversity and Populations. A number of you have not turned in your research paper. Make sure you get this in asap as it counts as a zero and can really bring your grade down. We will be having a quiz over the definitions of our Populations unit; the quiz will be this Friday.

Monday, October 8  We will have our Biome unit test tomorrow, Tuesday the 9th. Please make sure you have your study guide filled out, so if you have any questions, you can ask us before the test. Wednesday we will start Unit 4 on Populations.

World History, 3rd block, Spring 2018

5/14/18  We will finish out our semester with after WW II and the Cold War.

5/7/18  We are covering out unit on World War I. Expect a pop quiz at any time.

4/30/18  For the next two weeks, there will be major disruptions to the school day as End of Course testing will be taking place. We will test Wednesday over the Industrial Revolution and then we will start on World War I.

4/23/18  We start our section on the Mesoamerica and South American revolutions. We will continue with our Napoleon  Web Quest and will start a South American Web Quest today.

4/16/18  We are still on our Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment unit. We will test this week.

4/9/18  We start our unit 8 which covers the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, and the Revolutions.

3/26/18  We continue with our mini unit 7 on Feudal Japan, India, and China. This mini unit will culminate with a project, a booklet of terms and pictures which will be due the first thing Wednesday, 3/28. We will then work on another project for the rest of the week. When we come back from break, we will start unit 8 which will cover the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, and the Revolutions.

3/19/18  We continue with unit 6 covering American Civilizations and the Age of Exploration and will have the unit test on Wednesday. We will then start a mini unit covering Feudal Japan, India, and China.

3/12/18  We continue with Unit 6 which covers the American Civilizations and the Age of Exploration.

3/5/18  We will have our second half of our Unit 5 test. The Reformation test will be this Wednesday the 7th. We will then start Unit 6 which covers the American Civilizations and the Age of Exploration.

2/26/18  I hope you all had a great week off. We are on Unit 5, The RenRef unit. That stands for the Renaissance and the Reformation, two very exciting times in history. We will have the first half of our test later this week, It will cover the Renaissance.

2/12/18  We will be having our Unit 4 test covering the Middle Ages this Thursday the 15th. Next week we’re off, yea!

2/5/18  We continue with our unit 3 covering the Byzantines, Mongols, Russia, Africa, and Islam. Our unit 3 test will be this Wednesday the 7th. We will then start on unit 4 covering Medieval Europe.

1/29/18  We continue with our unit 2 covering Ancient Greece and Rome. We will have a test Tuesday covering this material. We will then start on our unit 3 covering the Byzantines, Mongols, Russia, Africa, and Islam.

1/16/18  The week that wasn’t. We had MLK day on Monday, one day of school, then three snow days. On Tuesday we started on Unit 2 which covers Ancient Greece and Rome.

1/9/18  Nice to have had a three day weekend so soon in the semester and we have another one next week as well. We continue with the beginning of recorded history and the ancient civilizations. Our first test will be this coming Friday the 12th. It will cover Unit 1.

1/4/18  Welcome back! Hope you had a great break. We will start out with the beginning of recorded history and the ancient civilizations.

9th Literature & Composition, 2nd block, Spring 2018

5/14/18  We continue with Romeo and Juliet and with our R and J packet.

5/7/18  We will continue with Romeo and Juliet and working in our R and J packet. please don’t lose this important packet as, if completed, will add extra points to your R and J test at the end of the unit. Also, we expect you to hang onto them as we wont be replacing them if you lose yours.

4/30/18  For the next two weeks, there will be major disruptions to the school day as End of Course testing will be taking place. The EOC test will be Monday through Wednesday of this week. You will already have been notified of the times and locations. Thursday we will cover the Prologue to Romeo and Juliet and Thursday we will start Act 1.

4/23/18  We will be starting “Romeo and Juliet” today as well as reviewing for the End of Course Test (EOCT) which will be coming up the beginning of next week and will last three days. We recommend that you start with the essay on the day that it is assigned and not leave it to the end of the testing for that day.

4/16/18  Our “Where I’m From” poem is due this Tuesday the 17th. Our poetry unit test is this Thursday the 19th.

4/9/18  We will continue to prep for our EOC and we will start our unit on Poetry. We will start with a poem by Emily Dickinson called, “I’m Nobody! Who are you?” We will have our unit 7 vocabulary quiz on Wednesday.

3/26/18  We will finish our unit on the short story and have a test this coming Tuesday. We will then do some preparing for our upcoming EOC test.

3/19/18  We continue in our unit 2 on literary terms. There will be a unit test next week. Tuesday we will have our unit 6 vocabulary quiz and we will read “The Cask of Amontillado” as well. We will have a short quiz over it on Wednesday.

3/12/18  We start unit 2, the Short Story and start unit 6 in vocabulary.

3/5/18  We will have our Unit 1 test this coming Wednesday the 7th. We will then quiz over Unit 5 vocabulary on Thursday the 8th. Ms. Nelson will be back in town on Friday the 9th. We will then start unit 2, the Short Story.

2/26/18  I hope you all had a great week off. We start unit 5 of vocabulary this week as well as continuing on our persuasive essay. We will be in the writing lab Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

2/12/18  We are doing unit 4 for our vocabulary this week and working on the beginnings of a persuasive essay. Next week we’re off, yea!

2/5/18  We continue with Unit 3 for vocabulary and with our work out of our Springboard textbook.

1/29/18  We continue with Unit 2 vocabulary and with our readings out of our Springboard textbook. We will do a RAFT writing and we will be in the computer lab on Friday to type it up. We will continue to work on our English terms as well.

1/22/18  We continue with unit 1 vocabulary. The test will be on Wednesday the 24th. We will start on Unit 2 on Thursday. We also are continuing with our literary terms and we will start some reading in our Springboard textbook.

1/16/18  The week that wasn’t. We had MLK day on Monday, one day of school, then three snow days. On Tuesday we worked on our unit 1 vocabulary and on our notes for our literary terms.

1/9/18  Nice to have had a three day weekend so soon in the semester and we have another one next week as well. We start on sentence structure and types of sentences as well as making claims and citing evidence.

1/4/18  Welcome back! Hope you had a great break. We will start out with a review of basic writing to get us ready to take on 9th Lit!

Zoology, 1st block, Spring 2018

5/14/18  We will do our SLO tomorrow during class. We’re just abut done, or will be in three days!

5/7/18  We will have a quiz over Cnidarians (Jellies and Anemones) and Porifera (Sponges) this Friday the 11th. The jellyfish coloring packets are due on Monday the 14th and our Student Learning Objectives Test (SLO) will be next Tuesday the 15th. The last day for class for seniors will be Wednesday the 16th.

4/30/18  For the next two weeks, there will be major disruptions to the school day as End of Course testing will be taking place. We will start out unit on Annelids. Mr. Lindsay will be out on Thursday the 4th. The worm coloring packet is due Monday the 7th.

4/23/18  We will have an Echinoderm test this coming Thursday.

4/16/18  We will have an Arthropod quiz this Tuesday.

4/9/18  We continue our unit on Arthropods. We will have a quiz on Wednesday and we will also start a crayfish lab on that day as well. We will finish the lab on Thursday.

3/26/18  We will have a test this coming Wednesday covering our unit on Fish and Amphibians. We will then start on our unit on Arthropods.

3/19/18  We continue in our unit on amphibians. There will be a test upcoming.

3/12/18  The Bird quiz will now be tomorrow, Tuesday, then we will start our unit on Amphibians.

3/5/18  We will have a quiz today over Reptiles. We will then start our sub unit on Birds. The video on the Dinosaur Bird will be posted on Schoology. There is an accompanying question sheet that you can get in class. There will be a quiz next Monday the 12th covering Birds. We will then move onto Amphibians.

2/26/18  I hope you all had a great week off. We are now on unit 4, Reptiles and Birds. We will do a lab dissection of a rat on Wednesday and Thursday.

2/12/18  We are working on our unit 3 mammal unit projects this week and have some time scheduled for the media center. This project, which is in lieu of an unit test, will be due on Thursday, 2/15. We are also doing a lab dissection this week. Then we have one week off, yea!

2/5/18  We have an unit 2 test today covering Evolution and Classification. we will then go on to our unit on Mammals.

1/29/18  We continue unit 2 covering the area of Evolution.

1/22/18  We will have our Ecology review test this Wednesday the 24th. Then Thursday we will start on our second unit which will cover Evolution.
